NORLYS Koster 725AL is an outdoor wall light with a dome-shaped shade carried on a straight, horizontal arm. The body is cast aluminium, powder-coated in light grey RAL 9006 — a finish the manufacturer calls “Aluminium”. The underside of the shade is closed by a clear, textured polycarbonate lens.

Dimensions and wall mounting

The light projects 44 cm from the wall and stands 24 cm tall, while the dome itself is 24.5 cm across. The round wall base measures 12 cm in diameter, and the spacing of the three ø7 mm fixing holes follows the mounting box supplied with the luminaire. The 44 cm projection is the free space needed in front of the wall — compare it with the spot by the door or window where the light will go. The manufacturer also allows mounting on the corner of a building.

The luminaire weighs 2.86 kg. The supply cable, 7–10.5 mm in diameter, enters through a gasket, and the terminals take conductors up to 2.5 mm² and allow the supply to be looped on to the next luminaire. Installation is a job for an electrician.

What light it gives

Inside the shade sits an integrated 9.5 W Philips Fortimo LED module, supplied with the luminaire. It delivers 872 lm — slightly more than an old 60 W bulb — at 3000 K, a warm white. The light is directed downwards symmetrically, and the manufacturer states an upward light output ratio of zero (ULOR 0%), so the luminaire lights the wall and the ground below it rather than the sky. It cannot be dimmed. The LED module is not an ordinary bulb: it is replaced by the manufacturer's service or a qualified electrician.

Build and operating conditions

The IP54 rating means protection against water splashed from any direction and against dust, so the light can be mounted on a facade without a canopy above it. The lens is UV-stabilised, and the luminaire operates between −20 and +45°C. It is a protection class I luminaire and therefore needs an earth connection. A replacement lens kit and a spare LED module are available from the manufacturer as separate parts.

Where it fits

The light is intended for the facade of a house as well as for hotel and restaurant facades. The smooth dome on a slim arm follows a Scandinavian, modern form without ornament. The same model is also made in graphite RAL 7016.
