Porto is an outdoor wall lantern with a simple, modern form: a curved hood of grey powder-coated metal runs from the backplate over the shade, and below it hangs a clear cylindrical shade of thick glass with a rounded base. The manufacturer describes it as a contemporary take on the traditional nautical lantern. It is Elstead Lighting's own design from the Coastal Collection.
What it is made of and where it can go
The body is grade 304 stainless steel with a grey powder-coated finish. The lantern belongs to the Coastal Collection, which the manufacturer also intends for places exposed to sea air, and carries a 15-year manufacturer guarantee. IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, and the manufacturer specifies the lantern for exterior installation: on the facade beside the door, on a balcony or by a terrace.
Size and installation
The lantern is 18.8 cm tall and 11.5 cm wide, and projects 18.5 cm from the wall. It weighs 1.1 kg. Being small, it fits beside a door even where a frame and a downpipe leave little room — compare the 11.5 cm width with the free strip of wall.
For a building corner with no flat wall, the manufacturer offers separately sold corner brackets C-BKT2-BROWN, C-BKT2-BLACK and C-BKT5-BLACK. The spare glass is coded GS447. This is a Class I fitting, so it needs an earth conductor.
Bulb and light
The lantern has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W; no bulb is included. The shade is clear, so the bulb stays fully visible and its shape is part of how the lantern looks. The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs — to dim it you need such a bulb and a dimmer.
