Portofino wall lantern - 1 light source - Grey Elstead

Portofino is an outdoor wall lantern from Elstead Lighting's own range and part of its Coastal Collection. The body is made of grade 304 stainless steel with a finely textured grey powder coat. A clear, jar-shaped glass shade with a rounded base hangs from a round collar set on an angular, diagonally cut arm — a contemporary take on a traditional ship's lantern.

Size and wall mounting

The lantern is 19.7 cm high and 10 cm wide and projects 24.7 cm from the wall. It weighs 1.18 kg. The arm has a flat back plate, so the fitting needs a flat section of wall; where there is none by the door, the manufacturer offers corner brackets sold separately: C-BKT2-BROWN, C-BKT2-BLACK and C-BKT5-BLACK. The glass shade is available as a spare part under the code GS447.

It is a Class I fitting, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor.

Weather resistance

The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction — the usual level for fittings mounted on an outside wall, on a facade, by an entrance, on a terrace or a balcony. The manufacturer marks the lantern as resistant to seawater, and 304 stainless steel under the powder coat matters where the air carries salt, near the sea.

Bulb and light

There is one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 40 W. The bulb is not included — the manufacturer suggests a clear LED bulb in the classic A60 shape, sold separately. The clear glass shows the bulb itself, so its shape and filament are part of the lantern's look, and the colour of the light comes from the bulb you choose: 2700 K gives warm, slightly yellow light, 3000 K warm white. The fitting can be dimmed with a dimmable bulb and a dimmer that works with it.
