PICNIC LED 8178 is a white battery-powered garden lantern: an open, box-shaped frame in lacquered aluminium, a pyramid roof and a round ring on top that you carry it by. It stands 47 cm tall and 14 cm wide. The maker files it under Scandinavian style β a plain white form with no ornament, with the LED module tucked under the roof.
Power and charging
The lamp needs no socket or cable where it stands, because it runs on a built-in rechargeable battery. The maker quotes 12 hours of light from a full charge and 5 to 8 hours to charge, so a lantern meant for the evening has to go on charge during the day. A micro USB charger is included.
It switches on with a touch button on the roof, which also dims it. Brightness is therefore set on the lantern itself, with no separate dimmer in the wiring.
How much light and what kind
The integrated 2.2 W LED module gives 155 lm at 3000 K, a warm white close to a traditional bulb. That is mood lighting: enough for a table on the terrace or as a marker along a path, but not enough to light the whole garden. The light source cannot be replaced; the maker rates it at 30,000 hours.
Where it can stand
The maker intends PICNIC LED for outdoor use. The IP54 rating means protection against dust and against splashing water from any direction, so the lantern can stay out on a terrace, balcony or in the garden when it rains. It must not be immersed in water.
The lantern stands on its own on a table or on the terrace floor. With the PICNIC 8106 hanging set, sold separately, it can also hang by its ring. At 1.43 kg it is easy to carry to wherever light is needed. The box holds the lantern, the micro USB charger and the instructions.
