SATURN M 12604 is a wall light built from two solids: a round 25 cm disc of lacquered steel in brushed gold, and a 12 cm sphere of white opal glass set at the centre of the disc and standing proud of its face.
How much wall it takes
The disc is 25 cm across β the figure to compare with the clear wall above a bedside table or beside a mirror. The fitting is circular, so it takes as much height as width and sets no direction.
It projects 14.2 cm from the wall. That number has to be set against the clear width where it will be mounted: in a narrow hallway or next to a door frame the fitting reaches into space people walk through. It weighs 0.855 kg net, so it makes no demands on the type of wall plug.
Which bulb it needs
The fitting has a single G9 socket and arrives with no light source, so the bulb is bought separately. The maker states a maximum of 4 W and restricts it to LED only. That is not a rounding: a closed glass sphere over a metal disc does not carry away the heat of a halogen capsule, so a G9 halogen is excluded here whatever its rating.
A 4 W ceiling puts this fitting in supplementary and decorative light rather than room lighting. The opal glass spreads the light evenly over the whole sphere, and part of the output bounces off the gold disc back onto the wall.
Installation and construction
The light mounts directly to the wall over the outlet box, with no arm or extension bracket. The maker classes it protection class I, which means a protective earth conductor has to reach the point β in an older installation without earthing that is a condition to check before buying.
The disc is lacquered steel and the shade is glass. The IP20 rating and the declared indoor use rule out the zones around a bath or shower and any sheltered position outdoors. The box holds the fitting, the shade and a mounting instruction. The light is made in Poland.
