Sawyer Outdoor Flush Ceiling Light - 3 light sources - Wood effect Elstead

Sawyer is a Hinkley outdoor flush ceiling light shaped as a low drum: a steel band with a sequoia wood-effect finish, held by vertical straps in a rust-iron colour and closed underneath by an etched glass diffuser. The fitting is distributed by Elstead Lighting.

Size and mounting

The light measures 38 cm across and only 12 cm high, and weighs 3.18 kg. It sits directly against the ceiling, so it suits places where a pendant would take too much headroom, such as the low ceiling of a covered terrace or a gazebo.

The fitting is Class I, so the connection box needs an earth conductor.

Outdoors

IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, and the manufacturer intends the light for outdoor mounting. The steel carries Hinkley's anti-corrosion coating, backed by a 3-year anti-corrosion guarantee from the distributor. It works in the garden, on a covered terrace and under a gazebo roof.

Bulbs and light

Inside are three E14 lampholders for bulbs of up to 40 W each. No bulbs are included, so you need to buy three and choose their colour and brightness yourself. The etched glass diffuses the light, so the bulbs themselves are not visible from below. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs, and adjusting brightness also needs a dimmer.

Character of the fitting

The warm grain of the wood effect and the dark, rust-coloured straps give the light a rustic, classic look that sits well with timber gazebos, ceiling beams and board-clad facades. The Sawyer range also includes outdoor chandeliers in the same finish.
