SUPROS 78 in the up/down version is a black cylinder 7.6 cm in diameter and 20.1 cm tall, projecting 13.3 cm from the wall, with two lenses — one up, one down. Together 2 × 9 W, 1400 lm, 3000 K.
What an up/down fitting actually does
Two opposing 60° cones draw two triangles of light on the wall and leave a dark band at the height of the fitting itself. This is not general lighting — it is modelling a surface. On textured render, brick or stone, light raking at an acute angle brings out a grain that ceiling lighting does not show at all.
In practice: two or three units at 1.5–2 m centres along a hallway or stairwell give rhythm and enough orientation without switching on the ceiling light. As the only source in a room it is not enough — the middle of the room stays unlit.
You are not stuck with the beam it comes with
This is the rarest feature of the series: the wide-angle 60° reflector supplied can be swapped — without tools — for narrower-angle reflectors available separately from SLV. If, once installed, the patches turn out too wide and spill onto the ceiling, you do not have to buy a different fitting: you change the optic. Very few wall lights in this price class allow it.
Dimming and wiring — two things to check before buying
-
Trailing-edge phase dimming (RC). It works with an ordinary wall dimmer, no DALI and no controller. But: the draw is only 0.5 A / ~20 W, and many phase dimmers have a minimum load of 20–40 W. If the fitting is to run on its own, check your dimmer's lower threshold — otherwise you get flicker or a refusal to strike at low settings.
-
Protection class I — an earth conductor is required. Most decorative wall lights are class II and manage without an earth; this one does not. On a refit of old two-core wiring that is a condition to satisfy before buying, not after.
- Supply 230 V AC, LED driver factory-fitted inside the luminaire — it connects straight to the mains, with no separate transformer and no need to find room for one in the back box.
Light output
-
1400 lm from 20 W system power → 70 lm/W
-
3000 K warm white; CRI 80
-
60° beam (interchangeable, see above)
- Declared life 25,000 h; the LED module is built in and not user-replaceable
-
IP20 — dry interiors only. Despite the lantern-like look, this is not an outdoor fitting and not a bathroom one.
Dimensions and mounting
Cylinder Ø 7.6 cm × 20.1 cm, total projection from the wall 13.3 cm (cylinder plus mounting plate). Weight 1.015 kg — on plasterboard an ordinary board fixing is enough, but a 13 cm projection creates leverage, so fixing at two points is advisable. The 7.6 cm diameter matches the series name: SUPROS 78 is the Ø 78 mm optical module.
