Swirl is a small wall light from Flambeau, distributed by Elstead Lighting. Beneath a square cream linen shade sits a sculpted scroll of cast resin finished in gold leaf β gilding that darkens in the recesses and brightens to a sheen on the raised edges.
How big it is and how far it stands off the wall
The fitting is 25.4 cm high and 17.8 cm wide, and it projects 10.2 cm from the wall. That last figure matters most here: in a corridor where you want to keep a clear walkway, ten centimetres come off the width on every side you hang one.
The luminaire itself weighs 0.6 kg, and 0.96 kg boxed β a load an ordinary masonry fixing will take, or a plasterboard fixing rated for it.
How much light it gives and of what kind
The fitting has one E27 socket rated to 60 W. No lamp is supplied and the LED is not integrated, so you choose the bulb yourself and can replace it later. The linen shade is opaque at the sides and the light leaves through the top and the bottom β the light washes the wall above and the surface below rather than spreading across the room.
The manufacturer states the fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps. It has no dimmer of its own, so dimming needs two things: a lamp described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit.
Materials, mounting and parts
The build is steel, resin and a linen shade. The light is for interior use only and is protection class I, so the box you connect it to has to carry an earth conductor β that decides whether it can go on an older two-core circuit without rewiring. The supply is 220β240 V, 50 Hz.
The shade is available separately as a spare under the code LS487, so damage to the linen does not mean replacing the whole light. The same model is also made with a bone-white shade.
