Staring is a mini pendant from Elstead Lighting's own range. A starburst of radiating metal rods sits on the steel suspension rod, above a bell-shaped shade of clear glass. The steel is finished in distressed gold: a gold colour with darker rubbed-through areas that give the surface an aged look.
Dimensions and hanging height
The fitting itself is 40.6 cm high and 18.4 cm in diameter, and weighs 2.99 kg. It hangs on rigid rods: one 7.6 cm rod, two of 15.2 cm and two of 30.5 cm are supplied and combined as needed. The total drop from the ceiling ranges from 43.2 to 142.2 cm — the length is set at installation by choosing rods so that the lower edge of the shade sits 70–80 cm above the table top.
A diameter of 18.4 cm means one pendant lights only a small part of the surface; over a longer table or an island several are usually hung in a row.
Bulb and light
There is one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 40 W. The bulb is not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays on view — Elstead recommends a separately sold clear E27 LED bulb for this pendant. It works with dimmable bulbs when there is a dimmer in the circuit.
It is Class I, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor. The manufacturer intends it for indoor use.
Where it fits
Staring is intended for hanging over a dining table and over a kitchen island. The style is modern with a decorative accent: the plain glass bell contrasts with the starburst of rods. The same pendant also comes with an opal glass shade (STARING-MP-DG-OPAL), which diffuses the light and hides the bulb.
