Staring is a tall two-light wall light from Elstead Lighting's own range. A short arm leaves a round wall plate and ends in a starburst ornament of metal rods; above and below it sit two bell-shaped shades of clear glass, each edged with a gold band. The steel has a Distressed Gold finish: gold with darker rubbed-through patches that give the surface an aged look.
Size and mounting
The wall light is 55.9 cm high and 17.8 cm wide, and projects 19.1 cm from the wall. At that height it takes up a vertical strip of wall — beside a mirror, a door or either side of a fireplace, check how much room is left above and below it.
The fitting weighs 3.5 kg, so the fixings need to suit the wall type, particularly on plasterboard. The manufacturer specifies it for interiors. It is a Class I fitting, so the connection box must include an earth conductor.
Lamps and light
Each shade has an E27 lampholder for a lamp of up to 40 W; lamps are not included, so two need to be bought. The upper shade opens upwards and the lower one downwards, so light falls on the wall above and below the fitting at the same time. The glass is clear, which leaves the lamps on show — Elstead recommends separately sold E27 LED lamps with clear glass at 3000 K, a warm white light.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps: dimming requires lamps marked as dimmable and a dimmer.
Which rooms it suits
The manufacturer intends Staring for living rooms, dining rooms, studies and hallways and classes it as modern in style — the starburst ornament and gold-rimmed shades add a decorative accent to a simple, symmetrical construction. The Staring range also includes a single wall light and pendants with one and three lights in the same finish.
