STEINEL HF 360-2 BT-IPD AP WS presence detector, surface-mounted 360°, white

The HF 360-2 BT-IPD AP WS is a STEINEL presence detector for surface mounting on a ceiling. The white square housing measures 123 × 123 mm and is 57 mm deep; behind the lens works a high-frequency sensor operating at 5.8 GHz. The unit is made up of a surface-mount frame, a load module with its terminal block and a magnetic sensor module.

What this variant will not do on its own

The BT IPD designation means this unit holds neither a relay nor control electronics — it switches nothing by itself. It passes the presence and brightness signals it detects over Bluetooth to another HF 360-2 fitted with a switching interface such as COM1 or COM2, and the light is switched there.

It is therefore bought as an extension of an installation that already runs: its job is to enlarge the detection area, not to bring a system up from scratch. Up to ten sensors can be wired in parallel through the L' terminal.

Range and where it goes

The sensor covers a full 360° with a Ø 12 m range, and the manufacturer specifies a mounting height of 2 to 4 m — both figures are worth comparing with your own ceiling height and room width. High-frequency waves pass through thin walls, which is why STEINEL points this detector at WCs with cubicles, changing rooms, stairwells, multi-storey car parks and kitchens.

The same property is its limitation: the sensor also reacts to movement behind a light partition wall. The manufacturer additionally requires at least 3 m of clearance from a Wi-Fi router or access point.

Supply, ingress protection and commissioning

The unit runs on 220–240 V, 50/60 Hz and draws under 1 W in standby. The mains lead is multi-core with a maximum conductor diameter of 2.5 mm, and connecting it to mains voltage remains electrician's work under local wiring regulations.

The surface-mounted version is rated IP54 and works from -20 °C to +50 °C, but the manufacturer intends it for indoor use only. Range, the dusk threshold between roughly 2 and 2,000 lux and the time setting from 10 s to 60 minutes including IQ mode are all entered over Bluetooth 2.4–2.48 GHz from the app, so commissioning needs a Bluetooth-capable smartphone or tablet.
