One detector for over 1200 m²
The IS 3360 is a passive infrared detector with a full 360-degree field of view and a 180° opening angle. At a tangential reach of Ø 40 m it covers 1257 m² — in practice a whole level of an underground car park, or a warehouse bay. Movement straight towards the detector (radial) is picked up within Ø 8 m, that is 50 m², and the mere presence of a seated person within a Ø 3 m field. Those three figures are what matters when planning: a PIR responds best to movement across its field rather than towards it, so the real reach depends on how people actually move through the space.
The KNX version — a detector as a bus device
This is the KNX variant: the unit switches no 230 V circuit, it sends telegrams onto the bus. It takes its supply from the bus (up to 30 V DC, rated current 12.5 mA), so no mains cable is run into the back box — only the bus cable. Parameters are set in ETS, and the objects it offers include two light outputs, a presence output, an HVAC output, the brightness value, a day/night function, a twilight switch, the basic-light function, constant-light control and logic gates. Medium: TP, 256 devices. KNX Secure is not supported.
Light measurement and constant-light control
The detector measures brightness by mixed-light metering (daylight and artificial light together), with a threshold set anywhere from 2 to 1000 lx — including a teach mode that simply learns the room's current level. On that basis it runs constant-light control: while enough daylight comes through the windows the luminaires stay dimmed, and output rises only as dusk falls. Separately there is the basic-light function — the level the lighting drops back to once the zone is vacated, instead of going dark altogether, which in a stairwell or a car park is a safety matter rather than a comfort one. The main light is adjustable from 0 to 100%.
Flush ceiling mounting
The housing is flush-mounted, square, white (RAL 9003), in UV-resistant plastic; 78 × 94 × 94 mm. Recommended mounting height is 2.5–4 m, optimally 2.8 m, 4 m at most — any higher and the field spreads out so far that the detector can no longer resolve a single person. It provides creep-under protection (it sees movement directly beneath it) and segment-by-segment masking: individual slices of the field can be switched off with the supplied shrouds so the detector ignores the adjacent corridor or cars passing the window. The field is divided into 1416 switching zones in total. Several detectors can be run in a master/slave arrangement.
Conditions of use and warranty
IP20 confines the unit to interiors, but its temperature range of −20 °C to +50 °C covers underground garages, unheated stairwells and unheated halls. The manufacturer gives a 5-year warranty. The Smart Remote handset, which allows settings to be changed without a computer, is an optional accessory and not part of the package.
