STRAP is a table lamp 55 cm tall, made from black metal in RAL 9005. The cylindrical metal shade, 25 cm across and 15.5 cm high, sits on a slim 1.56 cm tube and is gathered by a leather strap — the part that gave the lamp its name.
Two straps in the box
The maker supplies two leather straps: one black, one brown. The black one disappears into the form and the lamp reads as a single industrial cylinder; the brown one cuts across it with a warm accent and pulls it towards rooms with wood and leather. Swapping takes a moment, so the same lamp can change character along with the room.
It is also the only soft material in the build — everything else is metal. Leather against metal is a design decision by the duo Bjørn + Balle, not a structural element.
Dimensions, cable and switch
At 55 cm the lamp belongs on a chest of drawers or a desk rather than a low side table — the lower rim of the shade then sits above the eye level of someone seated. The 25 cm shade directs the light downwards onto the surface and does not brighten the ceiling.
The switch is on the fitting itself, so the lamp is turned on within arm's reach, with no inline cord switch to hunt for. The cable is 180 cm with a black textile braid matching the body. The lamp weighs 1.74 kg — enough not to shift if the cable is tugged.
Light source and build
The E27 holder takes one lamp of up to 40 W; no bulb is supplied. Dimming is not provided, so brightness depends entirely on the lamp chosen. The metal shade is opaque, so the colour of the light shows mainly on the surface lit beneath it — 3000 K works over a worktop, 2700 K in a bedroom.
The lamp is protection class II, double insulated, and needs no earthed socket. STRAP is also made in white.
