Strap 16 is a pendant designed by the duo Bjørn + Balle for Design For The People, a brand of the Danish company Nordlux. The conical opal white glass shade, 16.5 cm across, hangs not from a conventional bracket but from an imitation leather strap thrown over the shade and fixed with nickel-coloured fittings.
Two straps in the box
This is the most practical detail of the lamp: the manufacturer supplies two straps — one brown, one black. You swap them yourself, so the same shade can carry a warm leather accent or a stark black-and-white pairing, depending on what the room is doing. The change takes a moment and does not require taking the lamp down.
Opal glass, not clear
The shade is opal glass, not clear. The difference matters: opal covers the bulb completely and becomes the luminous surface itself, so the light is soft and does not sting when you are sitting at a table looking straight at the lamp. The cone meanwhile directs most of the output downwards onto the surface below — this is a lamp for a dining table, a kitchen island or a counter.
G9 socket and dimming
The lamp has a single G9 socket. No bulb is supplied and the maximum source power is 40 W. The fitting can be dimmed, but on one condition: a dimmable bulb has to go in — there is no dimming circuit in the fitting itself, so the bulb you choose decides this property.
Cable and installation
The cable is 300 cm long with a white textile covering; it is trimmed to length during installation but is not replaceable. The ceiling canopy is 11.4 cm across. The lamp is protection class II — double insulation means no earth conductor is needed. Its IP20 rating restricts it to dry interiors, and the supply is 230 V. The whole fitting weighs 0.746 kg.
