TRUE PRESENCE COM2 AP black presence detector

True Presence COM2 AP is a presence detector in a black square surface-mounted housing, 12.3 cm across and 4.5 cm deep. It works on a 7.2 GHz high-frequency sensor and takes every setting from a phone over Bluetooth — there are no dials on the housing, and the manufacturer provides no remote for it.

What it detects and over what area

The detector watches a full 360° around itself with a 160° opening angle. Movement and presence are picked up across a 15 m circle, which is 177 m². True Presence detection itself — recognising someone sitting still from the micro-movements of breathing — covers a smaller 9 m circle, or 64 m². Compare the two figures with the floor plan separately: in a room larger than 64 m², the outer part of the range behaves like ordinary motion detection.

High-frequency waves pass through glass, wood and lightweight partition walls, so the detector can react to a person on the other side of one. It is worth checking what adjoins the room before settling on a mounting position.

Where and how high it goes

The housing is surface-mounted on the ceiling. The manufacturer allows a mounting height of 2 to 12 m and gives 2.8 m as the optimum, but True Presence detection only works up to 4 m — above that, motion and presence detection remain. IP54 protection and an operating range of -20 to 50 °C also cover a production area or a warehouse, though the manufacturer intends the detector for indoor use.

Wiring, load and control

The detector runs on a 220–240 V mains supply and draws 1 W itself. It has two outputs. The first switches 2000 W of resistive load but no more than 8 LED or fluorescent luminaires — with modern lighting it is the number of fittings, not the wattage, that sets the limit. The second is volt-free and switches 230 W, so it can control a load fed from a different circuit than the detector. The on-time is adjustable from 30 s to 30 min.

The black housing does not measure brightness. If the lighting is also to respond to daylight levels, an external light sensor has to be added over Bluetooth or KNX. Settings, and linking detectors into master/master and master/slave groups, are done from the app.
