VT-7222 is the fitting only — a white aluminium frame recessed into the ceiling, prepared for two AR111 lamps on a G53 base. No bulbs and no driver are supplied: this is a mounting component to which you add the light sources.
A gimbal: each head aims separately
Both rings are gimbal-mounted — they rotate about the vertical axis and tilt on side trunnions, independently of one another. That is what separates a gimbal fitting from an ordinary downlight: one frame can light two different points. The typical use is a picture wall or a kitchen worktop — one beam onto the wall, the other into the room, without cutting two separate holes in the ceiling.
AR111 and G53 — what to know before you buy
AR111 is a 111 mm reflector lamp, originally halogen and now widely available as LED. The G53 base is two thick pins 53 mm apart — and here is the mistake most often made at purchase:
-
AR111 lamps come in two voltages. The 230 V versions go straight in — the fitting is passive, so nothing else is needed. The 12 V versions require a separate transformer sized for both lamps. The fitting contains no driver and does not settle this for you.
-
Beam angle is a property of the lamp, not the fitting. The same frame gives a narrow accent (8–12°) or wide general light (40–45°) depending on what you put in it.
- Colour temperature and output also come from the lamps. Two 12–15 W AR111 LEDs together typically give 1600–2400 lm.
Recessed installation
The frame measures 325 x 174 mm overall and holds itself in the ceiling on the four spring clips visible at its edges. The opening in plasterboard is cut to the template the manufacturer supplies — V-TAC does not publish a cut-out dimension in its catalogue data, so check it in the box before cutting. Free space must remain above the fitting for the lamps and for heat to escape; the aluminium body draws heat from the rings but does not replace ventilation above a suspended ceiling.
Operating conditions and build
The IP20 rating restricts the fitting to dry rooms only — not bathroom protection zones, not outdoors, not over a cooker hood exposed to steam. The body is aluminium in white; the same model also exists in black. The manufacturer declares a fitting life of over 20,000 hours (the real life of the assembly depends on the lamps fitted), CE, EMC and RoHS certification and a 2-year warranty. Weight about 0.6 kg.
