Wakefield small wall lantern - 1 light source - Earth Black Elstead

The small Wakefield is an outdoor wall lantern by Quoizel, distributed by Elstead Lighting. Its square body is built as a "frame within a frame": outer posts stand in front of an inner frame holding the panes, which gives the lantern visual depth. The panes are clear seeded glass with small air bubbles, and the flat roof has a simple stepped top. The Earth Black finish is a black with a distinctly grainy texture. The maker describes the design as Arts and Crafts meeting vintage styling.

Size and mounting

The lantern is 28 cm high and 17.1 cm wide, and it projects 19.7 cm from the wall. Compare those figures with the free stretch of wall by your door — the small version fits where there is little room beside the entrance. It mounts on a flat wall, and for the corner of a building the maker offers separately sold C-BKT2 brackets in brown or black.

Material and durability

The body is a weather-resistant composite rather than metal, which is why the maker rates the lantern for harsh coastal conditions, where salt air attacks coatings on steel. IP44 means protection against splashing water from any direction, so the fitting can hang on a facade or a balcony, exposed to rain. It is protection class I and must be connected to an earth conductor — something for the electrician to note.

Light source

Inside is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W; no bulb is included. The seeded glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible and its shape becomes part of the lantern's look. The fitting works with dimmable lamps: with a dimmer you need a bulb marked as dimmable.
