ARANCON is a wall-mounted reading light with an aluminium body: a square wall plate with a built-in push button, an arched arm and a cylindrical head that points down and away from the wall. The fitting stands 31 cm tall and the plate measures 8 cm across.

How much wall it takes up

The plate is a square 8 cm on a side, so it covers a standard back box and stays clear of furniture placed against the wall. The arm rises over the plate and sets the head down beside it, and the whole body stays within 31 cm of height — compare that with the gap between your headboard and the shelf above it.

The fitting runs directly on 230 V mains, wired to the cable brought out of the wall under the plate. The manufacturer intends it for dry rooms indoors.

How much light it gives, and in what colour

One integrated LED module of 3 W does the work, delivering 190 lm at 3000 K — warm, slightly yellow light close to a traditional incandescent bulb. 190 lm is roughly a quarter of what an old 60 W bulb produced: enough for a page of a book or the surface of a bedside table, not enough to light a whole room.

The cylindrical head sends that light one way, downwards and out from the wall, so the pool stays narrow and falls on whatever sits beneath it. That is a reading lamp's distribution, not general lighting.

Light source and the button on the fitting

The LED module is part of the package, so the light works as soon as it is wired in and no bulb has to be bought separately. The source is integrated and cannot be replaced by hand — when the module is done, the whole fitting goes.

A round push button sits on the plate and switches the light on and off at the fitting itself. The lamp can therefore hang on a permanently live circuit with no separate wall switch, which counts beside a bed where the switch by the door is out of reach.

Construction

Plate, arm and head are made of aluminium, a light metal, so the fitting puts little load on a fixing in plasterboard. The form is minimal: smooth surfaces, no ornament and a single visible detail, the button on the plate.
