Adams is a pendant chandelier shaped as a clear glass globe 49.8 cm across, held by brass bands. Inside the globe stand four arms with E14 candle sockets, and the crown, the ceiling canopy and the centre band carry cast rosettes – the detail through which the collection refers to the Victorian era. The metal has a burnished brass finish. The fitting is designed by Generation Lighting (Feiss) and distributed by Elstead Lighting.
How big it is and how low to hang it
The fitting itself is 67.9 cm tall and 49.8 cm in diameter. It hangs on a 152.4 cm chain, and the overall drop can be set anywhere from 83.2 to 235.6 cm. That is enough to bring the bottom of the globe 70–80 cm above a dining table top both in a room of ordinary height and in a tall space with a stairwell or gallery.
The chandelier weighs 9 kg, so the fixing point in the ceiling has to carry that load. It is a Class I fitting, which means it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Bulbs and dimming
The chandelier takes four E14 lamps of up to 60 W each. Bulbs are not included. Through the clear glass they are visible from every side, which makes clear candle-shaped bulbs the natural choice, echoing the candelabra inside the globe.
The fitting is compatible with dimming – this needs dimmable bulbs and a dimmer switch in the installation. It has no built-in driver or controller.
Construction and where it suits
The frame is steel and the shade is clear glass. Burnished brass is a warm, golden metal with a soft sheen and no darkened patina. The rosettes on the crown and the band, together with the decorative cover at the canopy, make Adams a classic fitting.
The chandelier is for indoor use. It suits the space over a dining table, a spacious hallway and a hotel lobby, where a globe almost half a metre wide is visible from a distance.
