Ainsley is a three-light bathroom wall light by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting: a horizontal arm with three cased opal glass shades, carried on a round wall plate with an arched arm. The steel is finished in brushed brass, and each shade sits in a turned cup and is edged with a brass trim ring.
Size and where to mount it
The fitting is 61 cm wide, 23.1 cm high and projects 20.6 cm from the wall. Compare the width with the mirror or washbasin it will hang above. It weighs 1.74 kg.
The IP44 rating means protection against splashing water from any direction, which is why the manufacturer allows installation in a bathroom. It is a Class I fitting — it must be connected to a protective earth.
What light it gives
The shades hold three G9 sockets, and the manufacturer supplies three replaceable 3 W G9 LED lamps in the box. Each gives 300 lm, 900 lm in total — slightly more than an old 60 W bulb, spread over three points along the mirror. 3000 K is warm white, and CRI 80 means sound, though not studio-grade, colour rendering. The manufacturer quotes a lifetime of 25,000 hours.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps: dimming needs dimmable G9 lamps and a dimmer. The opal glass diffuses the light, so the lamps are not visible through the shades.
Style and range
Ainsley has a traditional silhouette with retro details: turned cups, rounded shades and an arched arm. Besides the bathroom mirror it also works above a sideboard in a dining room. The same three-light version is available in polished chrome.
