Benno is a two-light wall light by Kichler, distributed by Elstead Lighting. Two round globes of cased, milky opal glass sit on a horizontal black steel bar fixed to a round wall plate. The sleeves on the bar and the centre of the plate are finished in champagne bronze, which contrasts with the black.
Dimensions
The wall light is 37.3 cm wide and 22.2 cm high, and projects 16.6 cm from the wall. Compare the width with that of the mirror or basin – the manufacturer suggests mounting it above a wide mirror, where the two globes spread light to both sides. The fitting weighs 1.32 kg.
Light and lamps
The wall light has two G9 lampholders, and two 3 W LED bulbs are included, so it works straight away once connected. Each gives 300 lm, 600 lm in total, at 3000 K – a warm white that is pleasant in the evening and enough to light the area around a mirror. The bulbs can be replaced with any other G9 bulbs.
The opal glass diffuses the light evenly and hides the bulb, so the globes glow uniformly and do not dazzle someone standing at the mirror. The manufacturer describes the fitting as compatible with dimmable lamps – dimming needs dimmable G9 bulbs and a dimmer in the wiring.
Bathroom use and installation
An IP44 rating means protection against splashing water, which is why the manufacturer intends Benno for bathrooms, including above the mirror at the basin. The fitting is protection class I and must be connected to an earth conductor. Its simple, geometric form with a mixed black and champagne bronze finish suits contemporary interiors.
