BONAO Luces Exclusivas Pendant Lamp LE42642

BONAO is a pendant lamp with a double champagne-coloured glass shade hung on a black cord. The outer shade is shaped like an elongated dome, and inside it, around the bulb, stands a second, narrower glass cylinder. The ceiling rose, cord and lampholder are black.

Size and hanging height

The shade is 18 cm across and 25 cm tall, and the whole body, including the black stem the shade hangs from, measures 35 cm. The manufacturer gives a total height of 240 cm, taken from the ceiling to the bottom edge of the shade; the rest, over two metres, is cord.

The ceiling rose is 9 cm across and 2.5 cm deep, so it covers a standard ceiling junction box. Above a worktop the bottom edge of the shade belongs 70–80 cm above the surface — a figure to compare with the height of your own room. At 18 cm across, one fitting lights only a narrow section of a worktop, so over the kitchen island the manufacturer intended it for, several are usually hung side by side.

Which bulb you need

The lamp takes one light point with an E27 thread and runs on 230 V. No bulb is supplied, and the maximum power of the light source is 12 W — a limit met today mainly by LED bulbs, so you choose the light colour and the brightness when you buy the bulb.

Both shades are made of see-through glass and the bulb is visible from every side, so a good-looking bulb is worth picking. The glass is tinted: light passing through it takes on a warm amber cast, and because the bottom edges of both shades are open, uncoloured light also falls straight down. The lamp can be dimmed, but that calls for a dimmable bulb and a dimmer in the circuit.

Build and series

The lamp combines two materials: metal in the ceiling rose, cord and lampholder, and glass in both shades. The double layer of glass is what shows from a distance — the rim of the inner cylinder reads through the outer dome and draws a second outline around the bulb.
