Brinley is a pendant with three clear glass shades shaped like preserving jars and gathered into a tight cluster. A brass band with a bail handle wraps each shade, and the bands are joined together beneath a shared suspension. The metal has a brushed brass finish. The pendant comes from a Kichler collection and is distributed by Elstead Lighting.
Size and hanging height
The cluster of three shades measures 21.6 cm across and 19.7 cm high, so it is compact – over a kitchen island or a small table it does not block the view across the worktop. The shades hang on a 260 cm cable, and the overall drop can be set from 25.6 to 287 cm: from a fitting drawn up almost to the ceiling in a low room to one hanging 70–80 cm above a table top in a tall space. The ceiling canopy is 14.6 cm in diameter.
The pendant weighs 4.69 kg and is Class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Bulbs and light
The fitting takes three E27 bulbs of up to 60 W each. Bulbs are not included. Through the clear glass the bulb stays in view and its shape becomes part of the look, which is why the maker shows the pendant with clear filament bulbs.
The pendant is compatible with dimming: it needs dimmable bulbs and a dimmer switch in the installation.
Construction and use
The frame is steel and the shades are clear glass. The jar motif and the brass fittings give Brinley a vintage character. It is intended for indoor use – over a dining table and over a kitchen island. The Brinley series also includes a three-light flush ceiling fitting and versions in brushed nickel and Olde Bronze.
