Camillo Medium Outdoor Wall Lantern - 1 Light - Textured Black Elstead

Camillo is a medium-size outdoor wall lantern by Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. A cylinder of clear seeded glass, with small air bubbles in it, is enclosed by a frame of vertical louvers, and the whole aluminium body is finished in textured black. The lantern mounts on a rectangular wall plate.

Size and mounting on the facade

The lantern is 37.5 cm high and 15.2 cm wide, and it projects 19.1 cm from the wall. Compare that last figure with the space beside your front door or garage door, checking that a door leaf or a downpipe will not catch the fitting. For mounting on the corner of a building the maker offers separately sold corner brackets (C-BKT2-BLACK in black or C-BKT2-BROWN in brown), which let the lantern go where there is no flat wall.

The fitting is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against splashing water from any direction, and the maker specifies it for exterior use. It is Class I, so it must be connected to the earth conductor; it runs on 220–240 V mains.

Light source

Inside is a single E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb remains visible through it; a decorative elongated bulb therefore suits this lantern, and the bubbles in the glass scatter its glow. The lantern is compatible with dimmable bulbs where a dimmer is fitted in the circuit.

Style and variants

The vertical louvers and the dark, matt textured metal combine a modern look with an industrial one, which the maker calls Luxe Industrial. The lantern suits a house facade, an entrance and a garden. The Camillo series also comes in a painted natural brass finish.
