Griffin is a flush ceiling light by Quoizel, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting, mounted directly against the ceiling. A shallow bowl of clear seeded glass is held by a ring on softly curved arms. The metalwork is finished in Palladian Bronze – a dark bronze – with weathered brass accents on the lampholder covers and on the ball finial beneath the bowl.
How big it is and which ceilings it suits
The light is 42.2 cm in diameter and only 19.4 cm high. Because it sits against the ceiling instead of hanging from a cord, with a 250 cm ceiling the bottom of the fitting ends up about 231 cm above the floor – a good option for rooms where a pendant would hang too low. Compare the diameter with the size of the room: at 42 cm this is a clearly visible fitting, not a small point on the ceiling.
It weighs 2.85 kg. It is a Class I fitting, so the installation needs an earth conductor.
What light it gives
Inside there are three E27 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included. The glass is clear, so the bulbs stay visible – the manufacturer designed the bowl to show off decorative Edison-style bulbs and recommends a clear A60 E27 LED bulb of 8 W, 800 lm and 3000 K, sold separately. The seeds in the glass soften the light slightly. The fitting works with dimmable bulbs; dimming also requires a dimmer switch.
Which interiors it suits
The manufacturer describes Griffin as an understated, softly modern design. It suits a bedroom or a dining room. The range also includes other finishes and semi-flush versions that hang lower beneath the ceiling.
