Hampton is a four-light chandelier by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting. A minimal rectangular steel frame in a Brushed Brass finish carries three shades on arms and a taller cylindrical shade in the centre of the frame. All shades are off-white linen, and the fitting hangs from a brass chain.
Size and hanging height
The chandelier itself is 62.2 cm tall and 62.9 cm in diameter. The 152.4 cm chain lets you set the overall drop anywhere from 73.7 to 222.1 cm, measured from the ceiling. So even at its shortest the fitting takes up more than 70 cm below the ceiling – compare that figure with the height of your own room.
Over a table, the drop is usually set so the bottom edge of the shades sits 70–80 cm above the tabletop; compare the 62.9 cm diameter with the width of the table. The fitting weighs 3.5 kg and is Class I, so it must be connected to a protective earth conductor.
Bulbs and light
The chandelier has four E27 lampholders, each rated for a bulb of up to 60 W. Bulbs are not included – you need to buy four; the manufacturer recommends clear E27 LED bulbs in the classic pear shape with a warm light colour. The linen shades diffuse the light and let it through to the sides as well, not only downwards.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs – with a dimmer on the circuit, all four must be marked as dimmable. The manufacturer specifies it for interior use.
Style and use
The manufacturer describes Hampton as a transitional design between classic and contemporary: an unornamented geometric frame is paired with soft fabric shades. The chandelier is intended for the dining room over the table and for the hallway. The same model also comes in antique nickel with ivory shades.
