Havering table lamp - turquoise ceramic, ivory shade Quintiesse

Havering is a table lamp with a vase-shaped ceramic base in a glossy turquoise glaze. A gold-toned collar rings the neck, the foot is aged brass, and a tapered faux silk shade in ivory completes it. It is a Quintiesse design from the Elstead Lighting group, made in the United Kingdom.

Size and where to place it

The lamp is 73.5 cm tall, of which the base accounts for 41.8 cm. The shade is 41 cm across at the bottom, 35 cm at the top and 25.8 cm high — the surface it stands on should be wider than 41 cm so the shade does not overhang the edge. The foot itself takes up a 23 cm circle.

The lamp weighs 4.95 kg, with the weight concentrated in the ceramic base. The manufacturer intends it for the living room, dining room, bedroom and study — on a chest of drawers, a console or a wide side table by a sofa or bed.

Light source and power

It takes one E27 bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included, so you choose the colour and brightness — under a light shade, a warm 2700–3000 K bulb gives soft, yellowish light. The lamp has no dimmer of its own; the manufacturer states it works with smart dimmable bulbs, so brightness is controlled by the bulb itself, for example from an app.

It plugs into a socket and switches on with an inline switch on the cable. The cable is gold-coloured. The lamp is Class I, so it needs an earthed socket.

Style and build

Havering combines the classic silhouette of a ceramic vase and shade with a glossy, saturated glaze, placing it between classic and modern styles. The brass details — collar, foot and the finial above the shade — repeat the same warm metal tone.
