Hollis is a wall light by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead Lighting, in a black finish. A vertical steel rod stands off the wall on a short arm and carries a globe of clear glass with fine air bubbles at the top, held at its middle by a black metal band. The shape draws on Art Deco fittings of the 1920s.
Size and mounting
The wall light is 40.3 cm tall and the glass globe is 15.6 cm in diameter. It projects 19 cm from the wall – the figure to check in a narrow passage or beside a door that opens towards the fitting. The round wall plate is 12.7 cm across and 2 cm deep, so it covers a standard junction box. The whole fitting weighs 1.02 kg.
Light and bulb
Inside the globe there is one E14 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. The bulb is not included. The glass is clear, so the bulb stays visible and the bubbles only slightly break up its outline – the bulb shape, such as a candle or a small round bulb, affects how the wall light looks. The manufacturer lists the fitting as compatible with dimmable lamps: dimming needs such a bulb and a dimmer on the circuit.
Bathroom and other rooms
The IP44 rating means protection against water splashing from any direction, and the manufacturer specifies Hollis for interiors and bathrooms – for example beside a mirror, away from direct water jets. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to an earth conductor.
Beyond the bathroom, the wall light suits a dining room. Hollis also comes in a Heritage Brass finish with the same glass.
