Hollis is a three-light wall light by Hinkley, distributed by Elstead: a horizontal bar on an oval wall plate with three white opal glass globes beneath it, each banded by a brass ring. The steel is finished in Heritage Brass – a warm, muted, slightly aged brass.
Where to hang it
The fitting is rated IP44, meaning it is protected against splashing water, and the manufacturer intends it for interiors including bathrooms – typically above a mirror or basin. It is protection class I, so it must be connected to the earth conductor.
It is 60.6 cm wide and 23 cm high, and projects 19.3 cm from the wall. Compare the width with your mirror or cabinet – a 60 cm light looks best above a mirror at least as wide. It weighs 2.5 kg.
What light it gives
Each globe has an E14 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W, three in total. Bulbs are not included. Opal glass is milky and opaque, so the bulb itself stays hidden and the light spreads softly sideways and downwards, without harsh shadows on your face at the mirror. There is no built-in dimmer, but the fitting works with dimmable bulbs and a dimmer switch in the wiring.
Style and construction
The design draws on 1920s Art Deco lighting: geometric globes, a straight bar and metal bands as the only ornament. The body is steel and the shades are glass. The Hollis series also offers the same wall light in black.
