Hornsea is a garden bollard from Elstead Lighting's own range. Its cylindrical body of solid teak stands on a round stainless steel base and continues at the top into a diffuser section: a milky polycarbonate tube guarded by vertical bars and closed with a steel cap. The metal parts are marine-grade 316 stainless steel.
Size and installation
The bollard is 70 cm high and 12 cm in diameter, so it lights a path, driveway or border at knee height without shining into people's eyes. It weighs 3.2 kg. The base has fixing holes for bolting the bollard to the ground – a hard surface or a footing to which the supply cable is brought.
Light
The fitting has one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 40 W. The bulb is not included. The opal diffuser spreads light all the way round, so the bollard lights both the surface and its immediate surroundings. The manufacturer states that the fitting is compatible with dimmable lamps – dimming needs such a bulb and a dimmer in the wiring.
Resistance to the outdoors
An IP55 rating means protection against dust and water jets, so the bollard can stand outdoors without any cover. 316 stainless steel resists sea water, which matters in coastal gardens where ordinary steel corrodes faster. Teak is a naturally oily wood that copes well with moisture; over time, like any teak left in the sun, it may weather to a silvery tone.
The fitting is protection class I and must be connected to an earth conductor. The manufacturer describes it as modern – a simple, cylindrical form that pairs warm wood with cool steel.
