Deela is a single-light pendant by Kichler, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting. Its white opal glass shade has a softly faceted shape that, according to the maker, draws on a Ukrainian vase, and it sits in a slender, tapered steel collar finished in champagne bronze. The pendant hangs from a rigid rod with a round ceiling canopy in the same colour.
Size and suspension
The fitting itself is 41.1 cm high and 17.8 cm in diameter, which makes it an accent light rather than the main light for a room. Over a kitchen island or a longer table, several are usually hung in a row, with the bottom of the shade 70–80 cm above the surface.
The overall drop can be set anywhere from 68.3 to 144.5 cm by combining the rods in the box: two of 15.2 cm and two of 30.5 cm. Because the suspension is rigid, the pendant always hangs straight. It weighs 1.78 kg and is a Class I fitting, so it must be connected with an earth conductor.
Bulb and light
Inside is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W, and no bulb is included. The maker recommends a clear E27 A60 LED of 8 W giving 800 lm at 3000 K — as much light as an old 60 W bulb, in warm white.
Opal glass diffuses the light and hides the bulb, so the whole shade glows evenly without a harsh bright spot. The fitting works with dimmable lamps: dimming needs a dimmer and a bulb sold as dimmable.
Where it fits
The maker positions Deela for contemporary interiors as an accent or task light. It suits a dining table and a kitchen island, where the light needs to fall on a particular surface. The same model also comes in a black finish.
