Tiber is a small pendant light with an amber shade of twisted, mouth-blown glass. The cap above the shade, the round ceiling canopy and the twisted flex are finished in brushed brass. It belongs to Elstead Lighting's own range and is made in England.
How big it is and where to hang it
The shade is 17.5 cm across and the fitting is 23.7 cm tall. At that size a single pendant lights only a small part of a surface, which is why the maker also intends it to be grouped in clusters or hung in a row. The product attributes list it for dining rooms and over a kitchen island: two or three in a line will cover a longer worktop, and over a table the lower edge of the shade usually sits 70–80 cm above the top.
The drop is set during installation anywhere between 33.7 and 219.2 cm, so the pendant works under a low ceiling as well as a high one. The fitting weighs 2.16 kg.
What light it gives
The pendant takes one E27 bulb of up to 60 W. No bulb is supplied, so you choose the brightness and colour of the light yourself. The amber glass tints the light to a warm, honey tone, and a clear bulb with a visible filament brings out the twisted pattern of the shade.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs — dimming needs such a bulb and a suitable dimmer in the circuit.
Construction and installation
The body is steel with a brushed brass finish and the shade is glass. The fitting is protection class I, which means it must be connected to the earth conductor at the ceiling box. In the same family Elstead also offers a version with clear glass and polished nickel.
