A black midi cover in Fractal PC polycarbonate for LUMINES Design+ aluminium LED profiles of the alba, aria and akin systems, supplied as a 2 m length. It closes the profile channel at the front and hides the LED strip, letting only a small part of its light through.
How much light it lets through
According to measurements by the Lumines photometry laboratory, black Fractal PC in the midi shape transmits 16% of the light, with a tolerance of ±5%. The same cover in clear transmits 91% and in opal 70%. Switched off, a profile with the black cover looks like a dark trim strip; switched on, it gives a subdued glow — a solution for decorative lighting rather than main lighting.
When choosing a strip, allow for roughly one sixth of its luminous flux getting through the cover. If the profile has to actually light the room, the opal or clear version of the same shape is the better choice.
Which profiles it fits
Lumines covers are moulded to the channel cross-section, and the manufacturer assigns the midi shape only to the alba (surface and suspended), aria (surface and suspended) and akin (recessed into plasterboard) profiles. Profiles from other systems need a cover of a different shape. The cover is pressed into the front of the profile.
Material and purchase
According to the manufacturer, Fractal PC polycarbonate has an operating temperature range of -50 to +100 °C. The cover is bought separately — the profile, LED strip and end caps are separate parts of the system. The same black midi cover is also available in 1 m and 3 m lengths.
