Louvre is a pendant from Elstead Lighting's own range, shaped as a square steel cage whose sides are made of horizontal, angled slats of clear glass, like a louvre blind. The steel has a painted gunmetal finish: dark grey with lighter, silvery edges. Four lampholders with bulbs are visible inside.
Size and suspension
The cage measures 39.4 × 39.4 cm in plan and 40.7 cm in height. A shade of this width keeps good proportions over a table 80–90 cm wide, with its lower edge usually set 70–80 cm above the tabletop.
The pendant hangs on a 150 cm chain, so the overall height can be set anywhere from 49.6 to 202.4 cm – enough for a low room as well as a high ceiling. It is fixed with a rectangular ceiling plate. It weighs 7.47 kg, so the ceiling hook or anchor must carry that load; on a plasterboard ceiling it needs fixing to the supporting structure. It is a class I fitting that needs a protective earth connection, intended for indoor use.
Light sources
There are four E27 lampholders, each for a bulb of up to 60 W. No bulbs are included – you need to buy four. The glass is clear, so the bulbs are fully visible and part of the look; the maker shows the pendant with decorative filament bulbs and suggests a clear LED A60 lamp in 3000 K, a warm white, as a separately sold accessory. With a dimmer in the circuit, the fitting works with dimmable bulbs.
Style and the Louvre series
The plain steel frame and glass slats give it a gentle industrial character. The catalogue lists it over a dining table. The Louvre series also includes a single pendant, a six-light version, a four-light flush ceiling light and a wall light, all in the same finish.
