Louvre is a pendant light from Elstead Lighting's own range, shaped as a square lantern: an open steel frame whose sides are filled with horizontal slats of clear glass, angled like the blades of a louvre. The steel is painted in gunmetal – a dark graphite with a lighter, silvery brushed sheen. It hangs on a chain from a square ceiling canopy.
Size and hanging height
The shade is 25 × 25 cm in plan and 38.6 cm tall. The overall drop adjusts from 47.5 to 200.3 cm by shortening the 150 cm chain – over a table it is usually set so the bottom of the lantern hangs 70–80 cm above the tabletop. At 4.68 kg it needs a secure fixing point in the ceiling.
It is a Class I fitting and must be connected to an earth conductor. It is designed for interior use only.
Bulb
Inside is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W. The bulb is not included. The slats are clear, so the bulb stays in full view – the maker shows the pendant with a decorative filament bulb and recommends a clear E27 LED bulb in the classic pear shape as a separate accessory.
The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs: to dim it you need a dimmer switch and a bulb marked as dimmable.
Style and use
The angular frame, the chain and the exposed bulb give the pendant an industrial character, which the glass slats soften. The maker intends it for over a dining table and over a kitchen island; above a longer worktop several can hang in a row.
The Louvre range also includes a four-light flush ceiling light in the same gunmetal finish.
