The small Majin table lamp has a vase-shaped porcelain body in a glossy, deep oxblood-red glaze, set on a dark wooden base with short feet. On top sits a cream polycotton shade, edged top and bottom with burgundy-and-gold soutache braid. The lamp comes from Elstead Lighting's own collection.
Size and where it fits
With the shade fitted the lamp stands 56 cm tall, and the shade, its widest part, measures 36 cm across. Compare that diameter with the depth of the surface you have in mind: on a narrow console the shade will overhang the edge. The SMALL in the code marks the smaller of the two Majin versions in the maker's catalogue.
The lamp weighs 4.6 kg, most of it in the porcelain body and the wooden base, so check what a light shelf or a glass top can carry before placing it there.
Bulb and switching
There is one E27 lampholder for a bulb of up to 60 W, and the bulb is not included. E27 is the most common screw cap, so colour temperature and brightness are your choice; for a living room or bedroom lamp most people pick 2700–3000 K, a warm, slightly yellowish light.
The lamp has a cable with a plug and an inline switch, so a wall socket is all it needs, with no electrician involved. The fitting itself has no dimmer; the maker states it works with dimmable smart bulbs, so brightness is set from that bulb's app or remote. It is a Class I fitting, which means it needs an earthed socket.
Materials and character
The body is porcelain, the base is wood and the shade is polycotton, a blend of polyester and cotton. The detail photos show that the glaze is not uniform: it turns a lighter red around the neck and darkens towards the bottom. The fabric diffuses the light, while the open top and bottom of the shade send part of it down onto the table and up towards the ceiling.
A vase on a wooden plinth under a tapered, trimmed shade is a classic form. The lamp is for indoor use: on a sideboard in the living room, on a bedside table or on a desk in a home study.
