ARCO is a wall light from Maytoni's Neoclassic collection — two brass arms curve out from a round wall plate 12 cm across and end in cylindrical shades of blown, fluted glass. The arms are deliberately unequal: the tops of the shades sit at 380 and 336 mm, breaking the symmetry and giving the fitting a movement that a conventional two-light sconce does not have.
Fluted glass — this is what decides the light
The shades are clear and open at the top, their surfaces covered in vertical ribbing. The glass conceals nothing; it splits the light into vertical streaks — a characteristic striped pattern appears on the wall behind, and the visible bulb inside becomes part of the composition. Because the shade is open at the top, part of the light goes up and softly brightens the ceiling.
In practice that has one important consequence: the choice of bulb shows. This fitting suits a G9 with a clear envelope and a warm colour — an opal bulb kills the fluting effect, and an over-bright one will glare, since nothing screens it.
Light sources — two G9 lamps, bought separately
The fitting takes 2 × G9 at a maximum of 40 W per socket. Maytoni's instruction sheet marks the product with the crossed-out bulb pictogram, i.e. no light source is included — two bulbs must be bought to bring the sconce into use. The 40 W ceiling is a halogen-era figure; in practice a G9 LED of a few watts is fitted today, which across two points gives ample light for accent or supplementary lighting.
The sconce is not dimmable — the manufacturer states this plainly. Dimming would require dimmable bulbs and an external dimmer, which Maytoni does not specify for this model.
Installation
Mounting is to the wall on a round plate 120 mm across and only 25 mm thick, so the fitting sits close to the wall. Projection is 120 mm, and the whole is 380 mm tall and 250 mm wide — dimensions worth checking when planning the gap from a mirror, a picture frame or the edge of an alcove.
The fitting is Class I, which means a protective earth conductor must be available in the back box — the instruction shows a three-terminal block. An IP20 rating restricts the sconce to dry interiors; it is not suitable for a shower zone, nor above a basin without the required clearances.

The Arco series
Maytoni builds the series around the same curve and the same fluted shade, in three sizes:
-
MOD223WL-02BS — 2 × G9 wall sconce (this model)
-
MOD223PL-03BS — 3 × G9 pendant
-
MOD223PL-06BS — 6 × G9 pendant
A pendant over the table can therefore be paired with sconces on the wall, keeping an identical character of light and the same brass finish throughout a room.
Worth knowing before you order
