MESSINA is a ceiling light 57 cm across and 23.9 cm tall in which the whole structure — the gold frame, the lampholders and the wiring — is hidden behind a linen shade. What shows is the metal ornament running round the circumference and an even, beige plane of light.
Linen bonded to PVC — why it matters
The shade is natural linen bonded to PVC. Linen alone diffuses warmly and unevenly, with the weave visible; the PVC backing gives it rigidity so the plane stays flat instead of rippling over the years. It sits between a fabric shade and a technical diffuser — hence the soft glow with no bulbs showing through.
Five E27 sources — you choose them
Inside are five E27 lampholders, each rated to 60 W. Bulbs are not included. With five points it is worth choosing LED lamps of moderate output: five 800 lm bulbs give 4000 lm, which is often more than a living room wants — 500–600 lm each usually suffices. What matters more is that all five share the same colour, because behind one shade any difference in tone shows immediately.
Scale and installation
57 cm makes this a fitting for a large room — over a table, in a living room, in a hotel lobby. The ceiling rose is 13 cm across and 4.3 cm tall, so it will not cover a large hole left by a previous fitting. The lamp weighs 3.1 kg and is class I — a protective earth connection is required. Supply 220–240 V, 50 Hz, protection rating IP20.
Not dimmable
The maker states the fitting is not dimmable. Dimming can only come from choosing dimmable bulbs and a suitable dimmer — the fitting itself contains no control gear.
The collection
MESSINA belongs to Maytoni's House collection. The same design also comes as a three-light version (H223-PL-03-G). The manufacturer gives 5 years' warranty.
