Monte Large Outdoor Wall Lantern - 1 Light Source - Black Elstead

The large Monte wall lantern from Hinkley is a slim, upright box that sits flush against the wall along its whole back. A black aluminium frame surrounds panes of clear glass cut with diagonal, crossing lines, and the back panel is solid and black on the inside. The socket has a dark bronze metallic tone.

Dimensions

The lantern is 55.9 cm high and 19.1 cm wide, and projects only 14.7 cm from the wall. The flat form suits a narrow passage where a deeper fitting would get in the way, and the height of over half a metre is worth comparing with the door it will hang beside. It weighs 5.3 kg.

The manufacturer specifies it for exterior use — IP44 protects it from splashing water on every side. It is Class I and needs an earth connection.

Bulb

Inside is one E27 socket for a bulb of up to 60 W, which is not included. With clear glass, the bulb is visible along the full height of the lantern, so its shape — round or elongated — changes the fitting's look; the cut lines lie across it like a grid. The lantern is compatible with dimmable bulbs.

The geometric body and diamond-cut glass pair a classic lantern with a hint of glamour. The medium version is 40.6 cm high, and the range also includes a two-light Monte ceiling fitting.
