Monte is a Hinkley outdoor ceiling light in the form of a flat, square box: a black aluminium frame holds four panes of clear glass cut with diagonal, crossing lines. The pattern takes its cue from cut-glass barware, and through the panes you can see two sockets in a dark bronze metallic tone.
Size and mounting under a porch roof
The fitting measures 30.5 × 30.5 cm and is only 15.9 cm deep, so it sits comfortably under the low ceiling of a covered entrance or porch, which is what the manufacturer designed it for. It weighs 4.1 kg — the ceiling fixing needs to allow for that.
The manufacturer specifies it for exterior use, and the IP44 rating protects it against splashing water from any direction. It is a Class I fitting and needs an earth connection.
Bulbs
Inside are two E27 sockets, each for a bulb of up to 40 W; the bulbs are not included. The glass is clear, so the bulbs stay visible and the cut pattern lays a fine grid of lines over them — the bulb's shape is part of the look here. The fitting is compatible with dimmable bulbs.
The geometric frame and diamond-cut glass combine a classic lantern form with a hint of glamour. The Monte range also includes wall lanterns in two sizes with the same glass pattern.
