Norlys Basel 660GA Outdoor Wall Light, Hot-Dip Galvanised Steel, Clear Glass, E27 IP54

Basel 660GA is a rectangular outdoor wall light with a front of hot-dip galvanised steel crossed by two horizontal bars. Behind them sits a curved, clear safety-glass diffuser, and the base is a powder-coated aluminium casting. Hot-dip galvanising is a zinc layer that protects the steel from corrosion and stays raw, grey and metallic – there is no coloured paint on top.

Dimensions and wall mounting

The fitting is 21 cm wide and 31 cm high and projects 13 cm from the wall – compare them with the free space beside your door or a window. It weighs 2.94 kg and is fixed through two ø4.5 mm holes spaced 138 × 50 mm.

The terminals accept conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², and the cable entry takes a round-sheathed cable 7–10.5 mm in diameter. Fittings can be looped through with cable up to 3 × 1.5 mm², so several lights on one facade can share a supply line. As a Class I luminaire it needs a protective earth connection and a qualified installer.

Bulb and type of light

The light has an E27 socket and takes a bulb in the A55–A60 shape, meaning a standard bulb 55–60 mm across; an LED bulb may be up to 9 W. No bulb is included and the user replaces it. Norlys gives the Philips Master LEDbulb 806 lm / 5.9 W / 2700 K as an example – warm light as bright as an old 60 W bulb.

The diffuser is clear, so the bulb is visible through the glass and its look becomes part of the fitting. The light is open: most of it falls downwards and sideways, while about 13% of the flux goes upwards and lights the wall above the fitting.

Weather resistance and spare parts

IP54 means protection against dust and water splashed from any direction, so the light can hang on an exposed wall. The housing is rated IK07 for impact, and a silicone gasket seals the joint between glass and body. The diffuser (service kit 06660004) and the gasket (08652662) are available as spare parts.

Style and use

Norlys describes Basel as a contemporary design: a plain frame, metal bars and unadorned glass. The light is intended for house facades and gardens, and also for venues such as hotels and restaurants. Model 660 also comes in black, stainless steel and a Corten steel colour, while model 661 has a satin diffuser.
