FOURTY V is a Nowodvorski ceiling fitting built around a flat bar 150 cm long and 3 × 2 cm in section, lacquered in silky graphite. Three cylindrical tilting spots sit at one end of it; two conical shades hang from cables at the other. The whole fitting measures 151–157 cm long, up to 15.5 cm wide, and reaches at most 120 cm down.

How much ceiling it takes up

The bar is 150 cm, so that is the figure to set against the length of the worktop or table it is meant to hang over — the lit strip follows the bar, not the middle of the room. The drop of the cones can be shortened, but the manufacturer states that the height may only be altered by a qualified electrician.

The fitting weighs 1.5 kg net and 2.07 kg boxed. It mounts on a bridge screwed to the ceiling; the box holds the fitting, the manual and an Allen key, so only a drill and plugs suited to the ceiling have to be added.

Two sections mean two circuits

The five light points are split into two independent sections in a 2/3 ratio. The wiring diagram brings three conductors to the fitting — L1, L2 and N — so using that split calls for two separately switched lives. On a single circuit the whole fitting comes on at once.

It is protection class I, so the ceiling box also has to carry an earth conductor. Supply is ~220–230 V, 50/60 Hz, and the IP20 rating restricts it to dry interiors.

Which lamps to buy

Lamps are not included. The manufacturer specifies five GU10 lamps in the R35 format, that is 35 mm across, and gives a 10 W maximum for LED only — halogen must not go into this housing. R35 is narrower than the common R50, so the format marking matters at purchase, not just the cap.

Because the lamps are chosen separately, the buyer sets the light colour: warmer 3000 K over a table, neutral 4000 K over a worktop.

Build

Bar and shades are lacquered aluminium and lacquered steel in one matt graphite tone throughout. The shape is modern and reduced to plain solids — a cylinder and a cone on thin cables, with no ornament. The manufacturer names the style modern and makes the fitting in Poland.
