Halden 517AL is an outdoor wall light shaped like half a dome, made of cast aluminium powder-coated light grey, RAL 9006. It is 31 cm wide and 15 cm tall and projects 15.5 cm from the wall. A clear, textured, UV-stabilised polycarbonate diffuser closes the flat underside, with an integrated LED module behind it.
How it lights
Light leaves only through the underside and spreads downwards in a hemisphere. The manufacturer states ULOR 0% and a BUG rating of B0-U1-G0, so it lights the wall below, a threshold, steps or a gate, not the sky or a window above. The textured diffuser spreads the light and limits glare.
The light delivers 682 lm from 8.5 W, a little less than an old 60 W bulb. 3000 K is a warm white, and CRI 80 is the standard colour rendering for general lighting.
LED module, driver and dimming
The Philips Fortimo LED module and the electronic driver are included, so there is no bulb to buy. Only a professional service may replace the module and driver; the manufacturer offers a service kit for this light as a spare part. The driver is rated for 50,000 h, and after over 50,000 h the module still gives at least 80% of its initial output (L80B20).
The light dims by trailing-edge phase cut (TE), so the dimmer in the installation has to work in that mode.
Mounting and connection
The light hangs on an intermediate plate screwed to the wall through two 7 × 10 mm adjustment slots spaced 100 mm apart, which lets you level it after fixing. The terminals take conductors up to 3 × 2.5 mm², a round cable of 7–10.5 mm diameter enters through an EPDM gland, and lights can be looped through with cable up to 3 × 1.5 mm². The manufacturer allows up to 254 of these lights on one B16 circuit breaker. As a class I fitting it must be connected to protective earth.
IP65 means the housing is dust-tight and protected against water jets, and IK10 is the highest impact rating (20 J), relevant at entrances and fences within reach of passers-by. The light weighs 1.64 kg.
Where it fits
The light is meant for facades, walls and balconies, fence and gate posts, and the entrances of hotels and restaurants. The smooth, unornamented dome in a single light grey is a minimalist form in the Scandinavian spirit.
