Paul Neuhaus RIKA 6162-18 black LED ceiling light, smoked glass, 3000 K

The Paul Neuhaus RIKA 6162-18 is a compact black LED ceiling light with a cylindrical smoked-glass shade. Its square ceiling base contrasts with the round outer shade, through which the pale inner cylinder remains visible. This is the single-light ceiling version of RIKA, rather than one of the larger pendant fittings in the range.

A compact fitting close to the ceiling

The light measures 15 cm in both width and length, with a height of 10.5 cm. There is no hanging cable, so placement depends on the height of the fitting itself rather than an adjustable suspension length. Compare its footprint with the intended ceiling position and the location of the electrical outlet before installation.

The manufacturer lists living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms, kitchens and entrance areas as applications. Its small body can also be considered for a corridor lighting point. When deciding how many fittings are needed, use the output of the complete luminaire rather than the rating of the LED source alone.

Warm-white light with clearly separated output figures

The built-in LED provides a colour temperature of 3000 K. The instructions distinguish the source output of 680 lm from the complete fitting's output of 230 lm. The latter is the relevant figure when assessing the light available to the room; these are not separate outputs to add together. The LED module uses 4.5 W, while total power consumption is 6 W. No separate screw-in bulb needs to be selected or purchased.

Brightness control through the wall switch

Simply Dim provides continuous brightness adjustment from 100% down to 10% using the existing light switch. Switching the light back on within three seconds starts the dimming sequence. Switching off at the desired brightness saves that setting, which is recalled the next time the light is turned on.

The black base, smoked glass and restrained geometry suit modern and minimalist interiors. Two concentric cylinders beneath a flat square base define its appearance, without decorative arms or a long pendant drop.
