Quoizel Bismarck 5 light chandelier, Earth Black with gold sockets, 5 x E27

Bismarck is a chandelier with five open hexagonal frames set radially around a central stem. The steel is painted black in the Earth Black finish, and the lampholders are gold — the only light-coloured part of the structure. The frames are empty inside, so the bulb stays fully visible.

How low it hangs and how much room it takes

The body is 63.6 cm across and 22 cm high. The suspension is built from rods: two 15.2 cm and two 30.5 cm rods are supplied, and combining them sets the drop anywhere between 39.4 cm and 115.4 cm. The height is chosen once, at assembly, because shortening the drop afterwards means taking the suspension apart.

Over a table the bottom edge of a chandelier usually ends up 70–80 cm above the top — that is the distance the rod set has to be matched to at your own ceiling height. The chandelier itself weighs 4.6 kg, and the ceiling pan is round and black.

Which bulbs to buy

There are five E27 sockets, one inside each frame, and the manufacturer allows up to 60 W per socket. No lamps are supplied, so five have to be bought separately.

The frames are open, which makes the bulb part of the look rather than something hidden behind a shade. The fitting works with dimming, but the bulb does the dimming: a lamp described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit are both needed.

Wiring and where it may go

The chandelier runs on 220–240 V and is protection class I, so the circuit must carry an earth conductor. The manufacturer names one location — interior — and publishes no IP rating.

Brand and finish

Bismarck is a Quoizel design, distributed in Europe by Elstead Lighting, which is why one product carries two names. The build is all steel, and the maker itself describes the geometric hexagons with their contrasting gold sockets as a modern line.
