H-LIGHT 1 is a round recessed ceiling downlight with a white 9 cm trim ring and a black heatsink that disappears above the ceiling line. The body is aluminium and the head tilts, so the cone can be aimed slightly off vertical.

The cut-out and the void above the ceiling

The manufacturer specifies a round cut-out of 8 cm and an installation depth of 8 cm. The second figure matters more than the diameter: that much clear space has to sit above the plasterboard, measured from its underside — with a shallower void the fitting will not go in. The visible ring is 9 cm, so it covers the cut edge with about half a centimetre of margin all round.

Clip springs hold it in place and are supplied with it. The whole fitting weighs 0.333 kg, so the board carries very little.

What is in the box

An LED driver is included, so the downlight goes straight onto 230 V with no separate control gear or transformer to buy. It is safety class II, which means the connection needs no earth conductor. The LED module is not user-replaceable — the manufacturer's service does that, so this is not a fitting you buy spare lamps for.

The light it gives

The LED module delivers 265 lm at 2700 K, a warm yellowish tone. The beam is only 20 degrees wide, so this is concentrated accent light for a worktop, a picture or a stretch of wall rather than for lighting a whole room — for general illumination what counts is how many of these go into the area. A colour rendering index of Ra 80 shows colours without visible shift. The tilt range is 15 degrees, enough to correct the aim but not to throw light at the next wall.

Dimming and running it

It dims on a phase dimmer, leading edge and trailing edge alike, so both common types will drive it. DALI control is not offered by the manufacturer. IP20 protection means dry interiors only, outside splash zones. The quoted life is 40 000 hours to the L70B50 criterion.
