MARENGA RL1 40 is a recessed light 9.5 cm across with a recess depth of just 4 cm. Its shade is neither cast nor pressed — it is 3D printed from PLA, a plant-derived plastic that biodegrades completely. Hence the distinctive ribbed texture, which injection moulding cannot produce.
Replacing old halogens without cutting
The most practical feature is the adjustable mounting hole size: 5–7 cm. The fixing springs slide, so the fitting adapts to the hole already in the ceiling. In practice it can replace old halogen downlights without widening or reworking the openings — the most troublesome part of such a swap.
The light
The LED module is integrated and supplied in the package, as is the driver — nothing extra needs buying for installation. Power draw is 6 W, flux 570 lm, colour 3000 K, warm white. Declared lifetime is 30,000 hours. One fitting lights a spot; for general lighting they are planned on a 1–1.5 m grid.
Where it fits
The shallow 4 cm build allows installation in suspended plasterboard ceilings, including where little room remains above the board. The manufacturer directs it at interiors — rooms, hallways, kitchens, bedrooms, staircases.
A material that counts
PLA is made from renewable feedstock and, under the right conditions, breaks down completely. In a light fitting that is rare and visible — the white shade has the matt, faintly layered finish typical of 3D printing.
