s.luce Ball is a pendant light built around a metal sphere 20 cm across, finished in white. Light leaves through the large round opening underneath and through a narrow, teardrop-shaped slot that runs up the side of the shade. The sphere turns on its suspension, and the drop reaches 5 metres.
How long the drop is and how the lamp hangs
The 5 m cable is the version meant for tall spaces — a stairwell, a foyer or a gallery. Set that figure against the height of your own room: in an ordinary room the suspension is shortened, since it is adjustable, but the spare length lets the fitting come down well below the ceiling it is fixed to.
The sphere itself is 20 cm across and weighs little — the shipping weight of the whole set is 583 g. The fitting is protection class I, so a protective earth conductor has to reach the box.
You aim the light where you need it
The head swivels: you turn the sphere so the opening throws light straight down, sideways onto a wall, or at an angle that does not glare at anyone sitting beside it. That is the only adjustment on this lamp, and it is also why the manufacturer suggests it above a picture, in a foyer and in a stairwell.
The fitting takes one E27 bulb of up to 40 W, and no bulb is included — you choose the colour and brightness yourself. The light can be dimmed provided you buy a bulb marked as dimmable and wire in a dimmer.
The shade comes off without tools
The round opening at the head is shaped so that the shade lifts off and clips back on by hand, with no tool at all. In the Ball series the manufacturer offers shades in four finishes — white, black, copper and gold — in two diameters, 20 and 30 cm, so the colour of the lamp can be changed later without replacing the whole fitting.
Shade and head are metal and the supply is 230 V. s.luce intends the fitting for indoor rooms — living room, kitchen, dining room, hallway and stairwell.
