s.luce Crutch GU10 Pendant Light, White with Brushed Aluminium Cover

The s.luce Crutch is a slim tube-shaped pendant 5.8 cm across. The body is 40 cm long and painted white, and a decorative cylinder in brushed aluminium sits on it. The fitting hangs on a white cable 200 cm long.

How big it is and how high to hang it

At 5.8 cm across the Crutch takes about as much ceiling as a single spot, so several side by side are no problem. The cable is 200 cm and the manufacturer expects it to be shortened, so the same fitting can hang low over a worktop or high in an open space.

Over a table the drop is usually shortened so the bottom edge of the tube sits 70-80 cm above the top: the light then covers the table and the narrow tube does not block the view across it.

The sliding cylinder and the direction of the light

The decorative cylinder is not fixed in place: it slides along the body, and where it sits decides how wide the cone of light leaving the bottom is. That is the only adjustment this lamp has - there is no joint and no movable head.

Nor does the cylinder have to stay in this finish. The manufacturer sells it in six versions - gold, chrome, brushed aluminium, white, black and copper - and it swaps without taking the fitting off the ceiling, so the look can change without a new lamp.

What lamp it needs

The fitting has one GU10 lampholder and takes a lamp of up to 15 W. No lamp is included, so colour temperature, output and beam angle are yours to choose. The Crutch throws its light straight down rather than sideways, so it lights a defined surface instead of a whole room.

It dims only with a lamp described as dimmable and a dimmer in the installation - the fitting carries no dimming electronics of its own. It is protection class I, so the ceiling box has to carry an earth conductor.

Where it is used

The manufacturer names the dining table, the kitchen worktop or island, the stairwell and commercial interiors - bars, restaurants and hotel receptions.

The shape is minimalist and modern: a smooth cylinder with no ornament, a white body and a matt silver aluminium band in the middle. The fitting weighs 1.234 kg, so an ordinary ceiling fixing is enough.
