s.luce Echos 3-light gallery pendant, clear glass, white, Ø 40 cm

The s.luce Echos 190838 is a three-light gallery pendant with three hand-blown shades in clear glass. Each shade is 18 cm across and 20 cm tall, and its wall is rippled with horizontal, irregular rings, so the pattern in the glass never repeats exactly from one piece to the next. The shades hang on white cables from a single round canopy 40 cm across, at three different heights.

The ceiling height it is meant for

The drop reaches 500 cm, five metres - this is a fitting for a stairwell, an entrance hall or a room open to the floor above, not for an ordinary ceiling at 2.5 m. The cables are shortened to the length you need during installation, so the only thing to check before buying is whether there is enough height above the chosen spot for all three staggered shades to be seen whole.

The canopy takes up a circle 40 cm across on the ceiling and is 3 cm deep, so it covers a standard junction box with room to spare. The fitting weighs 7.3 kg - that is the load the fixing has to carry, and in a plasterboard ceiling it needs anchoring into the supporting structure.

Which bulbs you have to buy

Each shade has an E27 socket, and the maker allows a bulb of up to 40 W in each. No lamps are included, so you buy three separately. The glass is clear and the bulb inside is fully visible, which makes its shape part of how the fitting looks - decorative filament bulbs are the usual choice for shades like these.

The fitting can be dimmed, but the maker notes that this happens through the light source: it takes bulbs described as dimmable and a dimmer in the circuit. Three bulbs of roughly 800 lm each add up to about as much light as three old 60 W incandescent bulbs.

Build and installation

The shades are glass; the canopy, lampholders and cables are metal, finished in white. The fitting is Class I, so it needs an earth conductor connection, and the maker intends it for indoor use only.

Echos is a series built on the same rippled glass form, in several glass colours and in versions from one to twenty light points, so the same motif can be repeated over a table or along a corridor.
